From a Feng Shui perspective, it is essential to have adequate lighting or we may experience a disconnection from the Tao. This can cause stress, imbalance and disharmony. Give attention to proper placement and the right amount of light to support each room’s activities. If you have a particular area where you love to read, paint, write etc. make sure that the lighting is aimed effectively.

“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” ~Dalai Lama

Feeling you need a Feng Shui tune up for insufficient lighting? You can add a window mirror to bring in the illusion of a window. To soften shadows add additional light from different angles and sources especially if there is only one light source in the room. Also include full-spectrum lighting and replace any burned out bulbs.

“Happiness is an inside job.” ~William Arthur Ward

Bring in floor lamps and table lamps to introduce more yang energy. Floor lamps, especially torchiere lamps brighten up dark corners. Painting the walls; light yellow or violet are highly reflective colors, especially if they have a slight gloss.

Outside your home, you can use lighting to remedy numerous issues. To correct feng shui problem areas, such as a missing corner, a light placed in the missing corner and directed back at the house can transcendentally fill the area with energy and this can restore a major chi imbalance.

“One joy shatters a hundred griefs.” ~Chinese Proverbs

Allow your inner radiance to illuminate routine activities and bring lightheartedness to your interactions with others. When we become overly concerned and allow worries to occupy our minds we become blind to the innate wisdom that courses through our daily life. To sustain our life, to fulfill our life we need illumination.
