The Wood Element

The Wood Element

Incorporating the Feng Shui Element of Wood into your Home

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.” ~ Dalai Lama

Wood is one of the five fundamental elements of Feng Shui. Without enough of it in your home, or in your life, forward movement can come to a standstill. And it becomes difficult to get the ball rolling towards positive aspirations if there is not adequate wood uplifting your surroundings.

“When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere” ~ François de la Rochefoucauld

Wood is believed to bring out the character traits of idealism, compassion, imagination and good decision making. When correctly placed around your living environment, it can help to make you feel confident, more focused and driven to initiate new projects.

“Wishing is good for us. Daydreams, fantasies, castles in the air, and aspirations all drive us forward, impel us to make things happen. They also tell us a lot about ourselves. Our wishes come straight from our core, and they are loaded with vital info” ~ Anonymous

Inner feelings of tranquility that lead to true growth and expansion in your life can be drawn from a room filled with wonderful, lush plants, ferns and flowers. Unlike sterile metal or cold glass, wood is warm and comforting and can make you feel more relaxed, safe and uninhibited.

“Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them and try to follow them.” ~ Louisa May Alcott

A lack of wood in your environment can cause you to become more critical of yourself and others, and to harbor regret. So, it’s important to incorporate a proportionate balance. Increasing the number of plants in your home is the obvious way to accomplish this, as greenery that is alive is vital and the ideal Wood Element.

Fun Feng Shui Fact: floors, furniture and frames are considered to be no longer living and will not supply the qualities that are needed. But, we also know that by incorporating the colors green or blue-green, vertical lines and realistic silk plants we can achieve the desired effect.

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.” ~ George Bernard Shaw

As one of the Five Elements (which include Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal) Wood is an intrinsic and important part of Feng Shui and it should be abundant in your life. It can increase your tranquility, obstruct the flow of unwanted energy, and also allow your creativity to blossom and grow.
